For years I've tried to manage my hip, knee, and back pain and dysfunction, saw probably over 50 providers in nyc, but finally found my most success with Dr David Chu and his acupuncture. Dr Chu has some of the best bedside manner and knowledge I've seen in orthopedics and really wants to understand the whole picture before giving treatment, which is so important. To me, an MD who administers acupuncture shows the flexibility, scope, and belief to try all conservative measures to manage chronic pain. After all the sessions I've had, I've built up such a great doctor-patient trust that I needed and really know how to approach my weeks to minimize my pain. I first went to NY Spine & Rehab in 2016 after years of suffering from neck and lower back pain. Prior to going to NYSR I saw several doctors and did rounds of PT many times. After going through all these previous treatments for several years I found my pain was only getting worse. I decided to make an appointment with Dr. Chu for acupuncture and while I was there we discussed my symptoms and prior treatments and he recommended I get an MRI and EMGs. I found out that I had herniated disks and that they were affecting my nerves as well. I finally had a clear answer to the cause of my chronic pain and was finally able to start a treatment plan that really addressed my condition and related symptoms. It was a huge relief to finally have some hope of improvement in my pain. If Dr. Chu would not have been as through as he was and taken the time to understand my symptoms and my prior treatments it could have possibly taken another few years of seeing different doctors and treatments to have a correct diagnosis. I have continued to see Dr. Chu since than and am very happy with the care I receive. I have undergone several in-office procedures, and Dr. Mehta and his team always perform top notch procedures, genuinely care about your comfort before during and after each procedure, and have excellent bedside manners. Kim has been amazing with help with large volumes of paperwork that I have needed for my employer and disability insurance carrier while I have been out on medical leave. She also has been excellent providing additional documents needed by my legal counsel as we navigate the complicated process of appeals and litigation with my disability insurance carrier to receive my compensation benefits while on medical leave. The entire team there are really amazing and I would highly recommend NYSR for anyone dealing with pain issues. ...read less

The first two times I saw Dr Chu I was optimistic about his ability and the prognosis he gave me for recurring hip pain that he said was from overuse at the gym. He gave me two steroid shots over two ...read moreweeks and said I should be back to normal shortly there after. I wasn't. I had to push him to do more because the pain was never going away completely. I had to fight him on it. Finally he sent me for an MRI which he told me looked ok. Again I had to fight and argue with him to make him understand the pain is persisting and his prognosis is not working out. He kept telling me in another week it would be better but it never got any better. Finally I got him to admit that his prognosis was wrong. Then he kept telling me what to do differently next time to avoid an injury like this but he wasn't addressing how to get this one to finally heal. I had to keep telling him "stop talking about the future and focus on fixing this one because you're not telling me anything about how to get this one to heal!" Then he just said "well you'll need to see a hip surgeon then." He just seemed oblivious to the concept that he needs to heal the current ailment not spend all the time talking about how to exercise in the future to avoid injury. That doesn't help me get this pain to go away. He just looked at me like I was annoying him. Yet there I sat in pain everyday trying to get an answer how to heal it. I also mentioned my insurance doesn't cover specialist visits and he kept trying to tell me what's what but I know my insurance doesn't. I asked because me made me schedule an office visit just to tell me the mri was ok. I had to take time off work for him to tell me he had nothing to tell me! And I will be paying for it too. He claimed this was not true and he would have someone in the office explain the billing to me and he walked out of the office. Then nothing. I went to the front desk and that person he mentioned was out for lunch. To date a week later I still haven't received a phone call, email, nothing. Last thing, Dr Chu told me I need orthotics inserts and this may help some of my issues. Then he never did anything. He said they will check the cost. They didn't. I sit here now with no orthotics. It's like he completely forgot he talked and Reccomended to me that we get them made. ...read less

She is always gentle and explains everything carefully to make sure I understand and am okay with all of it. I then started physical therapy with Raine, who has been wonderful! She always makes sure I am okay and not in pain with any exercise we do, and I have made huge improvements since starting PT with her just a couple of months ago. She has an instinct for what is causing pain and how to fix it. Every single person at NY Spine is extremely kind and professional, and great at what they do. I had a question about a letter I got from my insurance company, and the NY Spine team helped me figure it out without me having to spend hours on hold with the insurance company. I feel so much better now than I did a few months ago, and Dr. Dwyer, Raine, & team are also making sure that I have the tools and information I will need to stay well after I'm finished with my regular visits so I don't end up back in the same boat. I have already told my friends about NY Spine, and I would highly recommend them to anyone else who asked. ...read less

I diligently did what I was instructed to do at physical therapy and continued these exercises and stretches daily. This is what helped repair my sciatic nerve pain to become non-existent. For anyone who has had it, you know what a relief it is to feel normal again. I also increased my tumeric and ginger consumption because it's supposed to be good for you. The staff there was very supportive of my recovery and finishing pt was bitter sweet when I left. They repeatedly asked me what was working and what wasn't and built upon what was working. If you are willing to put in the work yourself and not only do the exercises at physical therapy you will get better relatively quickly, depending on your condition of course. I spent the most time with Rain doing PT and she's done wonders with stretching exercises and massage to help treat my pain. Go here if you want a team of people helping you from all angles. My only complaint about this place is the billing department. They don't submit to my insurance for me so I receive checks from my insurance company and I turn them over to the office when I receive them. There have now been several instances where the billing department contacts me for checks that have already been given over to the office staff. My advice is to get a receipt every single time you submit an insurance check. Don't let that detract you from the very good doctors, therapists, and front office staff who are, otherwise, very helpful. I recommend. ...read less
